Origin of Wigs

Wigs, especially for human hair wigs, are the essential thing among American African's daily life. But wigs aren't the new thing, they appear in our life from BC days.

The earliest wig maybe from ancient Egypt. According to the archaeology research, wigs were found on the heads of Egyptian mummies,  both men and women cut their hair in order to be clean and cool, but on the other hand, for their good looking, they often wore wigs. Wigs are made of human hair, palm leaf fibers or wool hair. This wig lasted for centuries in ancient Egypt before B.C.

Ancient Greeks and Romans also wore wigs. The ancestors of the Eskimos occasionally sometimes wore a  bun, also can be regarded as a kind of wig.

European Wigs

If we watch plays  that created under the background in the 17th and 18th centuries, such as the tragedies of Jean-Racine, Pierre Gonaire and the comedy of Moliere, as well as operas or movies describing that era, in which the princes and nobles had curly hair wigs, some even wore it down to their shoulders. In the paintings of that period, the protagonists were often curly-haired shawls. In fact, it's not that their hair really grows so long, but that wigs were popular in those days.

But do you know why wigs became popular among European men? In fact, it was closely related to Louis XIII, the king of France. It is said that Louis XIII advocated French men to wear wigs after losing their hair. And soon wearing wigs become fashion and be regarded as identity symbols.

At that time, the wigs were made of other people's hair or horsehair, wool, yak hair, buffalo hair, they were big and heavy, usually with a little white powder on it. Such wigs are expensive, and they are worn by so-called "upper class" people. People without status or poor people are not qualified to wear wigs. In Balzac's The Old Man, Futulen, a convict of hard labor whose real name is Yog Gaolen, always wears a wig in order to make others think he is a person of status till he was arrested.

French wigs soon spread to Britain. The word "wig" in English came from French. Judges and lawyers in Britain began to appear in court under false pretence in the early 18th century, and till today. The wigs worn by European men in the 18th century were mostly smaller than those worn in the previous century. Wigs are often decorated with ribbons, some with a small silk bag at the tail.

Such wigs also popular among women, especially Royal ladies, they use everything to decorate their wigs to show their symbol.

With the death of Louis XIV in 1715, the luxury of the "Louis XIV era" declined, and the fashion of pretentious wigs gradually became out of popular. The French Revolution brought wigs to the guillotine by nobles, and the fashion of wigs has gone down.

Modern Wigs

Although wigs not so popular since 1920s, but for the modern ladies, especially dark skin beauties, wigs still necessary thing.

Lace front wigs are most popular wigs among ladies, and 360 lace frontal wigs, full lace wigs also become more and more popular, u part wigs also appear in our daily life.

Lace front wigs, made by hair bundles and lace frontals or lace closures, it’s the first step of your wig life.

Full lace wigs, knot every hair strands to lace cap, need to spend lots of time, so it’s more expensive than lace front wigs and 360 frontal wigs, but it’s the most natural and comfortable.

360 lace wigs, similar with lace front wigs, but use 360 frontal to replace lace frontal, most of women use 360 wigs in order to make a bun.

U part wigs, which make a u-shaped hole in the front of the wig, the hole can in the center of the front, and left part, right part also available. U-part wigs allow you leave your own natural hair for your hairstyle.

Even though there are some kind of wigs will out of style among fashion ladies, but with the development of hair industry, I’m sure there are also new wig types will appear in our life, wigs will never step down from the stage of history.
